Marketers of consumer product goods are interested in increasing engagement with their ads. 3D model representations of their product offer a more immersive experience allowing the end-user to view the product from different perspectives. 3D models are also prevalent for AR applications. My team's objective was to extend the native ad experience with a 3D model. For the ad platform responsible for managing the ad campaign, we had to extend the UI to allow for the configuration of the 3D model for parameters such as camera position, lighting, and background color. A challenge we had from early UXR testing was interaction discoverability, as most end-users were not aware of the ad's interactivity. We experimented with animated icons to help with discovery.
