Adobe Flex/Actionscript 3 rich internet application development: Work directly with graphic designers to translate and implement visual concepts to graphical user interfaces.

Senior Software Engineer, Compete, Inc., Sept. 2003 to Nov. 2006. As a predictive analytics company, Compete (www.compete.com) is pioneering the analysis of consumer behavior online to predict consumer purchasing, both offline and online. GUI design/development of Win32 application for Sprint Nextel for downloading mobile content. Architected company’s first generation Internet Explorer event sink data collection agent. Developed automatic website screen capture utility. Developed Flash based applications as visual prototypes for desktop applications. GDI/Raster image display painting for MSN style alerting. Browser Helper Object (BHO) toolbar development for Internet Explorer. In house graphic designer.

Senior Software Engineer, Lifescape / IdeaLab May 2002 to June 2003. Lifescape (www.lifescapeinc.com) is an IdeaLab venture that develops Picasa, which is Windows software for digital photo management. The office of IdeaLab Boston closes on July 1, 2003. Developed MFC client application for XML based photo-processing ecommerce solution. Developed FTP based uploader of digital images. Secure HTTP XML request/response processing. GDI/Raster image display painting.

Consultant, Elsevier Science Feb. 2001 to Jan. 2002. Elsevier Science (www.elsevier.com) is a leading publisher of scientific literature. Member of an international research and development team to develop next generation distributed web architecture for company’s vertical web services. Successfully prototyped web service using Java, SOAP and WSDL.

Acting CTO, Sonicbids Corp.  Nov. 2000 to July 2001.  Sonicbids (www.sonicbids.com) is an online marketplace for the live-music industry. Provided vision and define company’s IT strategies and goals. Oversee application service provider website build out. Incorporate music production insights to work with executive management team in product development.

 

Senior Software Engineer, iCAST.  February 2000 to Jan 2001.  iCAST is a CMGI company that offers online broadband entertainment through streaming media.

Coding: Multimedia and web client development using ATL for the iCASTER.  Implemented CD Digital Audio Extraction using SCSI/ASPI layer.  Implemented Lame MP3 and Windows WMA audio compression codecs for playback.  Designed GUI for an internet radio tuner.

Software Engineer, Harmonix Music Systems, Inc.  October 1996 to February 2000. (www.harmonixmusic.com).  Harmonix is a MIT Media Lab start-up specializing in interactive music software and games for electronic entertainment. They are the developers of Guitar Hero I/II and Rock Band.

Coding: Microsoft Visual C++.  DirectSound coding for multiple buffer audio streaming.  Win32 mmsystem programming for midi and timing services.  MFC development for in-house sound design tools (DLS) and test bed applications.  Coding of linear audio compression and 3d positional audio.  2D graphics programming with GDI and Realimation.  Graphic User Interface design for metagame.

Music: Audio post production for CD-ROM and low-bandwidth internet downloadable content for tracks from artists Ben Neill, The Crystal Method, Liquid Soul, No Doubt, Reel Big Fish, and Tonic.  Produced techno version of Jingle Bells for 1998 Christmas Blockbuster Video Web Promotion.  Software synthesizer instrument and sound design for a Disney Epcot Installation. 

Developer Relations (1996-1998) with Microsoft, Creative Labs, Aureal Semiconductor, Sonic Implants, Yamaha, VLSI Technology, and Staccato Systems.  Technology consultation for business development (1996-1998).  Represented the company at major trade shows including Comdex, NAMM, and SxSW.  Attended professional development conferences including Microsoft DirectX Meltdown, DVD Technology & Entertainment, and Game Developer Conference Road Trip.

Software Engineer, Cakewalk Music Software.  June 1994 to October 1996. (www.cakewalk.com).  Cakewalk is a leading developer of music desktop production tools for MIDI and audio on the Windows platform.  Sole developer of the Virtual Jukebox, which remains in the product line since 1995.  Developed first generation of Cakewalk's DirectX reverb plug-in (1996).  Project lead in localization for five languages.  Audio data file management system.  Developer relations with Roland Corporation.

Electrical Engineer, Advanced Photovoltaic Systems (APS), June 1991 to September 1992.  APS developed manufacturing facilities for the production of photovoltaic panels for solar energy.  Analog and digital electronics design.  CAD printed circuit board design.  Project lead involving developing instrumentation measuring power output of solar cells biased by xenon strobe flashes.

BS Electrical Engineering, University of Connecticut, Storrs CT, May 1991.  Gold Medallist Recipient of the New England Whitaker Award, the most prestigious undergraduate award in Biomedical Engineering in New England.  Runner-up EE department's Senior Design Awards.

Leadership

President (1999), Chairman of the Board (1999) and Board Director (1997-1999) for National Association of Asian American Professionals Boston Chapter.  (www.naaapboston.org).  NAAAP is the only pan-Asian American professional organization in North America and has a national membership of 3000.  Manage operations of the Boston chapter including corporate fundraising, website and information systems, administration of high school scholarship awards, and oversight of professional development and community service subcommittees.  Keynote speaker for Brown University's celebration of Asian American History Month (1999).
